LEED eligible
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rates the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighbourhoods. The U.S. Green Building Council developed and manages LEED. The global standard is increasingly popular in Europe and the National Green Building Councils oversee the implementation of LEED in Europe.
The European versions of the LEED Standard recommend EKOenergy labelled electricity. EKOenergy is considered an acceptable equivalent and represents the best available option to the Green-e certified RECS in the U.S. Buildings using EKOenergy labeled electricity can get extra points in their LEED certification.
Buying Guarantees of Origin with this standard guarantees that the renewable energy adheres to the standard’s requirements.
Criteria
The buildings and neighbourhoods eligible for LEED certification must meet the following criteria:
- Guarantees of Orgin from EKOenergy certified power plant
- Five years purchasing contract.
LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.
