Bra Miljöval can be combined with all types of renewable energy sourcing — such as Guarantees of Origin and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) — to ensure that renewable production also takes care of the flora and fauna around energy installations.

• Generate electricity from 100% renewable sources, such as hydro, wind, solar, and biomass.

• Hydropower production must come from plants built before 1 January 1996.

• Hydropower plants must observe a minimum water flow that avoids dry riverbeds.

• Wind and solar installations must be located outside areas with high ecological value to protect vulnerable wildlife, for example birds and bats.

In addition, Bra Miljöval suppliers selling electricity from hydropower must allocate an annual fee to funds for energy efficiency and restoring ecosystems.
