Scott Bader works towards net zero by switching to renewable energy globally

Scott Bader, the global manufacturer of composites, adhesives and polymers, is working towards net zero. To meet that goal, the company headquartered in the United Kingdom is collaborating with Ecohz to source Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), in a push to decarbonise multiple global production sites.

“Switching to renewable energy will be the biggest reduction in our own scope 1&2 greenhouse gas emissions,” Ricky Greenwood, Group Environment and Sustainability Specialist at Scott Bader, says. “It is one of the single largest contributions to lowering our environmental impact that we can currently make, which is why it is an important target for us.”

Scott Bader has eight manufacturing sites globally, where most energy-related emissions come from cooling or temperature requirements. It has 19 global offices, too. To reduce GHG output, the company is working to electrify its industrial processes among other technical solutions, as well as transitioning to renewable electricity documented with EACs.

So far, Scott Bader aims to achieve a 60% cut in greenhouse gas emissions, compared to a 2020 baseline. Since 2022, Ecohz has provided the company with global EACs to maintain already achieved emissions reductions and deliver an additional 20% decrease in the last two years.

“From the start, working with Ecohz felt like a good partnership,” Greenwood says. “I liked the way they were quick and clear in answering questions. I have been working in sustainability for a while and know the EAC market well, so I appreciate how I can ask directly and they will respond to that. It has made my work a lot easier.”

Scott Bader has a wide range of requirements on different production sites, including the UK, France, Croatia, Dubai, South Africa, Canada, US, India and Brazil.

“Currently, to manage site energy use, emissions, and how we manage them, I communicate with the sites and then pass on requests to Ecohz,” Greenwood adds. “Whenever I do, their team is open and comfortable to chat with me. I appreciate how they are fast with responses and very helpful in finding solutions.”

Scott Bader will continue to work on reducing emissions in its own processes and from purchased electricity. Documenting renewable energy consumption around the world with EACs will be a fundamental tool to achieve the targets. “This is our best opportunity to meaningfully reduce our environmental impact in a reasonable time frame.” Greenwood concludes.
