OK POWER is a German ecolabel promoting energy from new power plants and is based on renewable energy documented with Guarantees of Origin. It promotes the use of new renewable power plants, the investment in them and contributions to the energy revolution. OK POWER is managed by the Hamburg Institut.
Buying Guarantees of Origin with this ecolabel guarantees that the renewable energy adheres to the ecolabel’s requirements.
Focus areas
Electricity products and providers eligible for OK POWER certification must meet the following criteria:
- Electricity is generated from 100% renewable energy sources
- Electricity is generated from plants that do not receive any governmental support
- The electricity provider is not involved in nuclear or coal power plants
In addition the supplier commits to support new plants by purchasing either A) Guarantees of Origin from new plants or B) Initiating and operating new plants:
A) Purchasing Guarantees of Origin from new plants
The supplier commits to procure at least 33% of the electricity from new power plants, where the following age limits apply:
- Hydropower: 8 years
- Wind power: 4 years
- Photovoltaics: 5 years
- Biomass: 4 years
- Geothermal: 8 years
B) Initiating and operating new plants
The supplier needs to initiate construction of new renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines
