Corporates strengthen their ambitions to reach Net Zero
PRESS RELEASE: Renewable energy essential to sustainability strategies – new insights survey
Large companies from across the world are embracing renewable energy as a part of their sustainability strategies, according to the ECOHZ sponsored Renewable Energy Insight Survey, released today. The results also highlight the importance of reporting frameworks, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG-P) and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), both considered by respondents as highly relevant.
Science-based targets help companies determine to what extent and how fast they need to reduce GHG emissions to keep the global temperature increase below 1.5°C. The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has launched the world’s first framework – guidance, criteria and recommendations – for corporate net-zero target setting in line with climate science. Corporate net-zero targets can play a critical role in addressing the climate emergency, and now there is a robust benchmark available. Luxembourg illuminated by environmental-friendly Blue Power
In the next three years, traffic- and street lights in Luxembourg will use renewable electricity to show traffic signals and lighten streets during the night. The Blue Power to be delivered is a mix of wind and hydropower that adheres to the latest EU environmental criteria protecting rivers, birds, flora and fauna. With Blue Power you are using renewable electricity and taking environmental responsibility.

Over the last 50 years, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs have become more prominent in the business world. In 2018 Fortune Global 500 firms spent around $20 billion a year on CSR. The question is: whether and why the expenditures on CSR activities pay off?
Uliana Mohyletska, a Digital Marketing Specialist at ECOHZ, has examined data from 58 empirical studies and concludes whether CSR contributes to profitability and stock return.
Africa has 40 % of the world’s solar potential but only 1 % of the world’s solar panels. Africa’s businesses suffer from the world’s highest electricity costs and the share of renewables in the energy mix has been at a standstill since the Paris Agreement in 2015. Billions of private and public dollars stand ready to invest in solar and other renewable energy projects in Africa, so what can be done to bring the urgent need for solar power to Africa? Read Terje Osmundsen in Empower New Energy’s blog during COP26 on what should be done to replace millions of litres of fossil fuels and create new jobs in Africa.
