Beijing Yanqing low wind-speed in China

The wind project is located on the east bank of the Guanting Reservoir of Yanqing County, Beijing City in China. It is the first low wind-speed pilot project in China with the 2.5 m/s of cut-in wind speed, promoting the progress of wind power technology in China, especially the progress of utilization of low windspeed.

Qualities

The total project has a capacity of 15 MW across 10 sets of low wind-speed turbines to generate clean renewable and zero emission electricity, and in the meantime to demonstrate the application of low wind-speed wind power technology.

Impact

The power plant will generate approximately 22,000 MWh per annum, leading to an estimated average annual emission reduction of 19,750 tCO₂. This offsets the combustion of thousands of tons of fossil fuel and promotes utilization of renewable resources and technologies.

The Project clearly fits into the development priority of China. It had not only supply renewable electricity to grid, but also contribute to sustainable development of the local community, host country and the world by means of:

  • As the first low wind-speed pilot project in China with the 2.5m/s of cut-in wind speed, promoting the progress of wind power technology in China, especially the progress of utilization of low wind-speed wind resource;
  • Reducing the emissions of other pollutants produced by the power generation industry in China;
  • Creating local employment opportunities during assembling and installing of generating equipment and during the project construction and operation period;
  • Providing 15 long-term positions during the operation of the Project.
